I saw this book and knew I had to read it, unfortunately I didn't know about it until AFTER I submitted my list of things to read/watch/review for the Everything Austen Challenge. So I'm posting this as an "extra." Have no fear I will still complete the other 5 parts of the challenge in the weeks to come! Now that I got that out of the way lets talk Mr Darcy, Vampyre!

Reading some earlier reviews of this book I knew it wasn't going to have a ton of blood and gore and that sort of thing. As a matter of fact I didn't know that Darcy was a vampire until about 2/3 of the way through the book (I suspected that he was early on...the title, duh :-P) This is basically just what could have happened to Darcy and Elizabeth on their marriage trip. Along the way Lizzy begins to wonder if she ever really knew Darcy since he doesn't seem to want to be with her despite a few spicy kisses and passionate looks. Could everyone have been right including Lady Catherine, that it was a bad match (gasp)!!!! Read and find out!

I liked this book. When reading it, I felt like I was shivering in the Alps, floating along on the gondolas in Venice, and traversing the dark forests of the Mediterranean. As for the dialogue between the characters, it might not have been exactly proper to the 19th century but come on, it's Pride and Prejudice with vampires thrown in so you shouldn't expect to hear conversations between regal ladies embroidering pew cushions in the parlor! :-) It didn't take long to get through this book, it was interesting and I was anxious to find out how Elizabeth was going to react to Darcy's secret. The ending was a bit crazy but it was a good read, probably a B- overall. If you're not a fan of books that really twist the originals you might not want to read this but if you're pretty open minded, you might like it!

  1. Okay - so compared to the general Twilight story, how did it relate? IMO, Twilight is the most complete (as least farfetched)of the series. How did Mr. Darcy measure up against Edward? ;-) Ooh, what a comparison, right?

  2. I meant "and least farfetched" sorry. It was my favorite of the series.

  3. I thought Twilight was the best of the series too! As far as this book goes the first 2/3 of the book are pretty normal. He was turned into a vampire in the conventional way so as far as that goes it not far fetched and he doesn't turn Elizabeth! So I'm going to say that no it's not too far fetched! I was thinking the entire time I read this brooding Mr Darcy is just like brooding Edward LOL! Both wanted to do what was best for their ladies! I don't want to say more or I might give it away! Hope this helps! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Hi, Renee. Well, since I really can't stand other people's renderings of Jane Austen's characters, I probably won't read this book, but it is so interesting that people are so in love with JA's characters that they would imagine things like this about them! It's kind of funny to me. I think I'm going to stick to the real thing for now. Who knows? Maybe I'll write a fan-fic of my own. But I doubt it!

  5. Melanie I think you should totally write a fan fiction, I'd read it!
