What Do You Look For in a Man?

Hahaha okay now that I have your attention... I thought since it was Friday it would be fun to talk about something that we all love whether we read Christian fiction or love a fun chick flick and that is...the hero! So I want to know who are your favorite fictional heroes from novels, movies or tv? Why do they appeal to you?

I'll start by sharing some of my favorites, it's a rather eclectic mix but variety is the spice of life right?

1. Fitzwilliam Darcy- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Okay I think Mr. Darcy is one of the ultimate heroes...I mean really who doesn't like a wealthy, brooding, and well-dressed man? Did I mention he is able to admit he was wrong?!

2. The Doctor- Doctor Who

Quirky, smart and oh so funny! Really? Is there a girl out there who doesn't like a hero that will make you LOL?!

3. Rhett Butler- Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Devilishly handsome and a true rogue who's not afraid to speak his mind!

4. John Brady- A Passion Denied by Julie Lessman

Gentle, yet stubborn, with a deep faith *sigh.*

Ok I know this may be controversial if you are a fan of this series because he's not really the hero but he's not really the bad guy either but I like him and this is my list so here he is...

5. Damon Salvatore- The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

Dangerous and oh so sexy...and he knows it too. What can I say, he "got swagger". :-P

So I told you my list of favorite heroes was eclectic...I didn't lie did I? From Christian fiction hero, John Brady to blood drinker, Damon Salvatore is quite a stretch, but what can I say I'm a girl of many tastes! I could go on and on about more of my favorite heroes but these are the first that came to mind. I will probably post more in the future along with my favorite heroines!!:-)

I'd love to know who your favorite fictional heroes are! Feel free to post a comment here or post on your blog.

  1. Fun post, Renee! Happy weekend! ;)

  2. SQUEEE!!! You love Doctor Who too?? So AWESOME!! I cannot WAIT for the premiere of series 5 tomorrow night!

  3. What an intriguing list... ;) Thanks for sharing! I don't know if I could pick just a few favorite, but I do love MaryLu Tyndall's heroes in her pirate series (dashing, protective, handsome, you name it!). Also, I watched the PBS version of Northanger Abbey and had to buy it because I loved it so much! That Henry Tilney--charming, sweet, and so much fun! Oh, I know I could say so much more about other heroes, but I thought I would at least share some that I really like. :) But believe me, this is not a complete list!

  4. @Amber S. - Nice to "meet another fan of Henry Tilney - raving about JJ Feild's performance in that film version of Northanger Abbey took up most of my review. ;) http://booktalkandmore.blogspot.com/2010/02/northanger-abbey-revisited.html

  5. Such a fun post, Renee, that I posted who my favorite heroes were on my blog. :)

I haven't watched Dr. Who yet but I plan on checking it out tomorrow.

  6. Hahaha yes Ruth! I <3 Doctor Who too! :-P

Amber- I LOVE Marylu's heroes but who doesn't love pirates?!

Thank you guys for sharing your favorite heroes! I have to say that you picked some good ones!

    XOXO~ Renee

  7. Hmmm. SO frustrated that I can't think of anyone when I REALLY want to. :p

BUT, I soooooooo love Collin in A Passion Most Pure. Oh sigh, I so wish I was Faith. ;)

Then in the movie, The Inheritance, the guy, can't remember his name ARGH! Does anyone know what movie I am talking about??

    Anywho, great list. :)

  8. Oh, Casey, are you talking about the movie with the girl who is a companion to the daughter of a rich family, and that guy who she falls in love with and teaches her how to dance and everything? :) I love that movie! (But maybe this is a different one than the one you're talking about.) Anyway, I looked it up and the guy's name is James Percy. Don't know if that's who you mean or not, but there it is! :)

  9. I love your list, Mr. Darcy and Rhett Butler are two of my favorites.

I understand about putting a villain on your list. Although he's not a romantic hero, and probably written as a villain in the books, I love Professor Snape from the Harry Potter series.

I also like Collin from A Passion Most Pure, John Murphy from the Zion Covenant Series, Bret Holden from Linda Chaikin's Arabian Winds Series, and Rogan Chantry from Linda Chaikin's East of the Sun series.

  10. Ohhhhh, what a GREAT subject, Renee!!

Thanks, Renee, Casey, and Michelle, for mentioning a few of my heroes, but for me, of course, Rhett Butler is RIGHT up at the top of the list. But so is Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series (not a Christian novel, but they're married, so as long as there is no adultery, I'm good), Marc DeHollander in Ruth Logan Herne's "Winter's End," Candace Calvert's doctors/firemen/policemen and Mary Connealy's Silas from The Husband Tree -- FABULOUS heroes ALL!!

One of my all-time favorites of my own creation, though, will be Cluny McGee from my upcoming book, A Hope Undaunted. WHOA ... THAT man could keep you up nights, trust me, he's THAT haunting, at least for me!! :)

What a fun blog today, Renee -- thanks!

  11. Omigosh YES!!!! I love Candace's heroes! I can't wait to read Code Triage to see what Nick is going to be like! I haven't read The Husband Tree yet but I've loved all of Mary's other heroes and I KNOW I'm going to love Cluny ;-)

And Michelle, I agree...Rogan Chantry is terrific!

Thank you everyone for stopping by and making this a fun day!!!
    XOXO~ Renee

  12. Ahhh...I am so drawing a blank right now (perhaps it's becuase it's 1:00 AM). And most of my top fave heros have already been mentioned, so.... But, if I had to pick I'd say my fave hero from a book (besides Collin and Brady) would be Ruel Chouteau. He is dashingly handsome, has a hidden heart-of-gold (very hidden, indeed)and is every so much an arrogant scoundrel, you can't help but love.
As for in a movie.... I'd say Prince Albert in The Young Victoria ( I just love the actor who protras him *sigh*. Just lose that funky stach, and he'd be perfect. But, because it's a true-to-life account of somebodie's life, I'm not sure if Albert really counts as a "fictional hero". Probably not. But, I haven't watched any good movies lately, so I don't really know any other heros, I might even take a fancy too. LOL ;D

Love the post, Renee! It's a lot of fun to read y'all's comments on fave heros. You can never too many, heros that is.LOL ;)
    Have a great weekend!
    Love Ya,

  13. Yes, yes, YES, Amber THAT is the one I was thinking of. :) I just love that guy and SO happy he and Edith got together. Thanks for thinking of it. :)

  14. I've got to go with Julie - Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is my favorite. Such a realistic and attractive personality - of course the Scottish accent and kilt doesn't hurt either. ;)

  15. No problem, Casey! I love that movie, too! :)

Renee, I want to let you know that I posted a longer response on my blog if you wanted to check it out. :)

  16. What a great idea for a post, Renee! I may have to steal it for WordVessel.

The first person who popped into my head was Matthew McConaughey's character in The Wedding Planner. I loved seeing him interact with the kids in the hospital, and I turned to mush when he told Mary that he memorized the curves of her face...*sigh*

Oh, and the other reason I popped over...Just wanted to let you know that I've given you a blog award. You can pick it up at http://wordvessel.blogspot.com/2010/04/updates-winners-blog-awards.html

    Cathy =)

  17. Thank you Cathy for the award! I really appreciate it and of course feel free to post away about heroes on your site! I'm sure I've seen a post similar to this on one of the many blogs that I visit. I can't remember which one it was but whoever came up with it, I thank you for the great idea!

    XOXO~ Renee

  18. Wow!! I'll have to look into the Julie Lessman book if he ranks up there with the others!!

  19. Sadly, I've not heard of four and five, but the first three are absolutely, most definitely, on my list. I love watching Dr. Who, (the newer) Pride and Prejudice, and Gone With the Wind. (I am not obsessed! :) ) I would also add Rafe Dubois from MaryLu Tyndall's The Raven Saint. I fell in love with his character pretty quickly. I think it was the french and English speech mix.

Lol, I sound like I'm drooling. I like and enjoy these characters. But I am pretty fond of the prince charming (my husband) that God has already given me. The best part- (he is actually real!)
